Call for Thematic sessions proposals (Closed)

The Call for thematic sessions proposal has expired on 20th september 2024 (12:00 h. UTC+1).

Thematic sessions complement the scientific program of our Meeting by providing a forum for the exploration of particular timely, innovative, and important questions in ecology, and for highlighting the integration of disciplines. We encourage members of our community to participate in this congress by submitting a thematic session proposal.

Proposals must be written in English. The system will send you confirmation of receipt of your proposal via screen-message and also via email. Please make sure you have received acknowledgment of receipt of your proposal.

Before you send your application, please, consider carefully whether you will be able to commit the time needed for planning, and managing the session and take into consideration the following rules and recommendations.

Proposals will be evaluated on the basis of the clarity of their objectives and the timeliness of the subject matter. Once the Scientific Committee has evaluated all the proposals received, the list of accepted sessions will be published. Please note that the selection process is competitive and, since we frecuently receive more applications than can be accommodated in the programme, it is possible that your proposal may be rejected, or scheduled as part of another more general session.

Thematic Sessions structure:

The time allocated to each accepted session will vary between one and a half and two and a half hours, depending on the number of contributions received. The session will consist of several standard oral presentations. The standard oral presentations will be 12 minutes long with an additional 3 minutes for questions and discussion.

In order to ensure a broad and diverse participation, any participant of the meeting may address their contribution to any of the different approved Thematic Sessions. Relevant oral contributions will be accepted until the allotted time is used up. Depending on the number of abstracts registered for each session, the organising staff may decide to include a space for flash presentations (3 min. presentation and 2 minutes for questions). Sessions will also be open to poster contributions.

Organising staff/moderator:

Sessions may have a maximum of three organisers. The organising staff of the thematic session should evaluate the proposals received for their session and select, among all aplications, those that they consider most relevant, innovative and related to their theme, paying special attention to creating sessions that are balanced in terms of gender and research stage. Please, consider multiple dimensions of diversity and consider reaching out beyond your own networks. The organising staff may present, as a whole, a single standard oral presentation in their own session, but may be co-authors of other included presentations. They may also intervene in any session other than the one they are organising.

At least one member of the organising staff will moderate the presentations during the session, and will be responsible for directing the session and ensuring that the time allotted for any of the presentations is observed. Organisers will be expected to complete other tasks to ensure the succes of their thematic session, such as:

  • to promote your session and the meeting through your networks
  • to manage speaker changes should there be any dropouts

Other important considerations:

In order to be considered and accepted, any contribution addressed to a session, whether in talk or poster format, must have registered its abstract through the congress application enabled for this purpose, and its presenters must have registered for the congress (also via website), during the established deadlines.

Organisers should note that registration for the congress is not waived or reduced for any participant in the thematic sessions. Unfortunately, the conference organisers do not have sufficient resources to provide financial support for travel or per diems for papers in the thematic sessions.

Your Thematic Session could be scheduled any day from Tuesday 3rd to Friday 6th June 2025 (both included). Cancellations are very disruptive to the planning and running of the conference; therefore, the organizing staff of the session must ensure their availability to attend their session on any of these dates.
